At the enterance to the Old City from the Jaffa Gate , one can see 2 toms. These, tell the legend, are the tombs of the 2 engineers that the Sultan Suleiman the Great employed to build the Wall around Jerusalem approximately 450 years ago. Today you can enjoy a facinating walk on the Old City Ramparts and see Jerusalem from a different prespective. From atop the ramparts, the alleys of the Old City and the Jerusalem neighborhoods look different and have an impressive glory. The walk on the Rampart can be done in 2 directions. The first is from the Jaffa Gate, and descending at the New Gate, Herod’s Gate or the Lion’s Gate. The second is from the Jaffa Gate descending at the Zion Gate or the Dung Gate. These walks practically cover most of the ancient wall, except for the part around the Temple Mount Opening hours: Saturday* to Thursday from: 9am – 4pm (Summer time: until 5pm). Friday: 9am – 2pm (The second part only). *On Saturdays the entrance to these sites will be possible only by purchasing tickets in advance.
